Private Residence at Mysore

Private Residence at Mysore

This private residence in Mysore was designed with a clear intent — to create a warm, tactile, and functionally efficient home that balances contemporary aesthetics with a sense of calm. Grayspace approached the project with a restrained material palette and a strong focus on detailing, light, and proportion.

The spatial flow is intuitive, and each area within the house has been designed to feel grounded, soft, and cohesive. Through thoughtful zoning and curated materials, the interiors reflect a quiet tropical-modern language that is both timeless and highly personal.

Bedrooms

The master bedroom is layered with natural textures — an olive green fluted headboard, botanical wallpaper, and timber cladding form the core material expression. Cove lighting behind the bed softens the mood, while black and brass accents bring balance and sophistication.

The guest bedroom carries forward the same material restraint, using fluted wall panels and marble inlays on either side of the bed. Soft green and grey textiles, along with simple yet effective lighting, create a space that is serene and well-composed.

Study & Reading Spaces

An efficient study corner has been integrated within the bedroom, featuring ribbed panelling, fluted glass shutters, and wood-toned finishes. This area is designed to be compact, unobtrusive, and visually in sync with the rest of the room.

A dedicated reading zone with cane details, open shelves, and ambient lighting adds intimacy — offering a space for slower moments and quiet reflection.

Living Room

The living area is open, inviting, and defined by a rich layering of textures. A grey L-shaped sectional anchors the seating, paired with deep green upholstered chairs. The ceiling features a timber insert with integrated lighting — introducing warmth and rhythm overhead.

A back wall with floating brass-framed shelving holds books, objects, and artwork. A bold calligraphic piece brings cultural context and acts as the visual centrepiece of the room.

Materiality & Lighting

A consistent palette of beige marble, oak finishes, polished cement, terracotta tones, and cane textures runs through the house. Lighting is strategically layered with ambient washes, recessed task lights, and highlights that bring depth and softness to each space.

Design Approach

The residence at Mysore was conceived as a calm, composed home that celebrates material honesty and everyday functionality. Grayspace’s design process focused on creating spaces that feel timeless, deeply livable, and emotionally resonant — a reflection of the client’s lifestyle and the ethos of modern tropical living.
